Vocabulary Day
Before beginning the vocabulary words for our new chapter in
social studies, I wanted to see what prior knowledge the students had about the
history of Latin America. I gave each table a whiteboard and marker. I called
out a vocabulary word from their new chapter and asked them to write what they
knew or thought the word meant. Here are some of the practical and funny things
that they wrote.
Explosion in 5L!!!
When dicussing chemical reactions, I decided to have the students make their own! We combined vinegar, water and baking soda in a ziploc bag and stood back!Tasty Solutions
The students have been studying mixtures and solutions in science class. One solution they discovered had to do with M&M's candy! The students had to:
Step 3: Place another piece of candy in their mouth and allow it to dissolve using their tongue and teeth. Record the time (in seconds) it takes for the candy shell to dissolve.
Here are some pictures of them timing their classmates!

Graphing and Measuring
The students have been studying graphing and measuring in math class. As an introduction to the concept, I had the students measure their classmates by centimeters then make a graph depicting all their classmates measurements.
